we know eyes
As leading children’s behavioural optometrists, we have experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye conditions.
Vision is an integral part of a child’s learning and development of confidence in walking, talking and social connections, including friendships. Poor vision can have a major impact on children, including interference with their learning – so the first test your child has should be an eye test.
“Our testing aims to diagnose and provide whatever assistance required for your child to grow their confidence and inspire their love of learning. ”
Signs to Look Out For:
- Blurry vision
- Regular headaches
- Complaints of a ‘blurry whiteboard’
- Poor concentration and excessive tiredness
- Frequent blinking
- Poor literally but excellent mathematics skills
- Excessive time taken to complete homework
- Falling behind at school
Unfortunately, a number of conditions go undiagnosed in children, leading to unnecessary difficulty both in and out of the classroom. Currently, up to 25% of primary school children have vision-related learning difficulties, most of which can be addressed and treated by eye-care professionals. When unmonitored, these conditions can progress to have a greater effect.
Just as alarming is the escalating number of children suffering from ADHD and dyslexia where symptoms could be due to an undiagnosed vision problem.
The Optometrist Association Australia recommends that every child has a comprehensive eye examination check before they start school and regularly as they progress through primary and secondary school. Examinations at 6 months and 3.5 years are also recommended prior to this.
