Adult and Family EYe Care

We see big kids (adults) too!

Don’t let our name fool you - we test all kids from ages 0-99. As a family-oriented clinic, we are always happy to look after every and any member of the family.

In addition to the child-friendly equipment which makes our clinic so unique, we also have the technology and equipment required for adult eye examination and management. This includes an Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) to see the retinal layers, Corneal Topography to examine at the shape of the eye, Visual Fields machine to measure your visual fields, detect any field defects and to perform the binocular vision driving assessment.

Our optometrists have a wealth of experience with adult patients and seeing families allows us to get a really excellent family history - perfect for our little kiddies! We have a number of adult patients in our practice, all with a variety of conditions including dry eye and adult myopia as well as patients who require regular monitoring due to diabetes, cataracts and glaucoma. If required, we also have the contacts to co-manage with a number of specialists both in the Melbourne and Geelong region.

Kiddies also has the optical solutions for adults, including adult glasses, contact lenses drops and more.

WHAT DO YOUR ADULT EYE EXAMINATIONS INVOLVE?

Our adult eye examinations are just as thorough as our children’s examinations (and equally as fun, we reckon). Your first consultation will take up to an hour with our optometrist, gathering all important aspects of a good examination, including a thorough personal and family history. Our long consultations also offer ample opportunity for you to discuss with our optometrists your concerns and visual needs so we can gain a better understanding of what will be beneficial and practical for you.

After this discussion, we consider our consultations to cover two main parts: eye function and eye health.

Eye function assesses your vision and sight, to get a prescription if needed, as well as other structural elements such as eye movements and pupil function.

We then go on to perform a health check for the front and back aspects of your eye, so we can assess for any eye conditions or changes, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration or even dry eye. This is especially important for adults, so we will always allocate time to do this if required.

We may request further testing if necessary, such as an OCT or Visual Fields test to get as much information as possible. We will then explain the condition of your eyes and their function, as well as any changes, so that you can understand your eye health and visual needs, and can get the answers that you are after.

Our optometrists and optical dispensers will then take the time to discuss with you your options (if necessary) including finding the perfect lens design, contact lens type or dry eye treatment. (Our optoms know adult eyes, and they also know that adults shouldn’t be swapping between five pairs of different glasses for different tasks. We’ll help you get a pair that’s just right!)
